Title: Lavender oil and acne?
Post by: csanch11 on October 01, 2015, 12:03:22 PM
I'm 21 years old and has acne. I'm thinking of switching to lavender oil because I've read some positive feed backs from customers. I know that the oil is very concentrated so you have to dilute it with a base oil carrier (coconut oil). My question is,  after diluting the oil can you apply it topically like you were applying lotion on your face?  Or is there a method to it?  Thanks!

Yes, there is a method for body lotion. I have tried this method & get best body lotion. I have taken 15-20 drops of Soulflower's lavender oil,3 ounces unrefined coconut oil, 1 ounce of shea & jojoba oil, 1/2 teaspoon Vitamin E oil, 1-ounce pure aloe & mix all the things in the bowl. Then blend it with the help of hand mixer until it is whipped to fluffy. Then fill it in a bottle & apply once or twice to the skin.

Hi csanch11,

To answer your question, yes you can apply lavender essential oil topically if you mix it with a carrier oil.  Some great carrier oils for acne include jojoba, grapeseed and neem oil.

There are a variety of essential oils that have been known to help cleanse and revitalise the skin. The most popular oils include lavender, geranium, ylang ylang, tea tree, roman chamomile, frankincense and lemongrass.

However, certain essential oils should only be applied for certain skin conditions. This is important as certain oils can have different effects that you might not be looking for when treating your specific skin condition.
I've listed the common skin care conditions along with the types of oils that are known help.

Breakouts and blemishes:
Geranium, patchouli and lavender oils are great for prevention and treatment for breakouts.

Ageing Skin:
Ylang-ylang, Frankincense, Lavender, Patchouli, Palmarosa, Cypress, Sandalwood, Rose and Elemi are known to help nourish and revitalise ageing skin. Its a good idea to add a carrier oil with the essential oils mentioned. A good choice would be rosehip oil.

Congested/Oily Skin:
Lemon, Lime, Orange, Bergamot, Cypress and Geranium are known to regulate and reduce oil output.

Dry/Chapped Skin:
Palmarosa, Roman Chamomile, Atlas Cedarwood, Geranium and Myrrh help moisturise the skin. Again its good to mix in a carrier oil with essential oils mentioned. Roehip oil is a great option.

One powerful recipe for promoting a healthy skin complexion would be:
1 fl. ounce of Jojoba Carrier Oil
6 Drops Lavender Essential Oil
5 Drops Tea Tree Essential Oil
1 Drop Geranium Essential Oil

Mix the ingredients together and massage a small amount to the face or any other part of the body. However, be certain to avoid the eyes, nostrils, lips and inside the ears when applying the mixture.

I hope I was of some assistance to your skin care inquiry.   :)
